Stability Partners Programme

Providing Stability for Boys Who Have Experienced Too Little of It

Summary

For more than twenty-five years, Rainbow Rescue has provided a safe, structured and nurturing home for boys aged 10–18 who have experienced abuse, neglect, family breakdown and other severe social challenges. Rainbow Rescue operates as a family-style residential home caring for up to fourteen boys at a time. The organisation works closely with the Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago and provides far more than accommodation. It provides guidance, education support, counselling, life skills and the stable environment necessary for young people to rebuild confidence and prepare for adulthood.

While Rainbow Rescue cannot change the circumstances that brought a child into care, it can provide the stability needed to help shape a different future.

Fund Raising

Annual operational expenses today are estimated to be just under one million dollars, ($980,000.00) with a total government subvention of two hundred and eight thousand five hundred dollars ($280,500.00) which approximates 28 % of the operational cost of the Residence, leaving the necessity for continuous fundraising. The State is more and more asked to care for, or is often forced to remove the children, to save them from further negative influences.  Realistically, some of the children are more damaged than others, demanding higher levels of trained staff to treat with the various issues. The high cost of this much-needed treatment escalates expenditure by a significant degree and is vastly different than what occurred a generation ago.

Next steps

A member of the Rainbow Rescue Board will contact selected organisations to arrange a brief meeting and discuss the Stability Partners Programme in greater detail.

Together, stability can change everything.

Why stability changes everything

Many of the boys who arrive at Rainbow Rescue have experienced instability in almost every area of life.

Unstable homes.
Unstable relationships.
Interrupted schooling.
Inconsistent support systems.
Uncertain futures.

Research consistently shows that children and young people achieve better outcomes when they experience stable environments, supportive adult relationships and consistent expectations. While Rainbow Rescue cannot change the circumstances that brought a child into care, it can provide the stability needed to help shape a different future.

A stable place to live.
A stable daily routine.
A stable support system.
A stable opportunity to learn, grow and succeed.
Over time, stability becomes confidence.
Confidence becomes capability.
Capability becomes opportunity.

Stability by design

The Stability Partners Programme is designed to reduce the annual uncertainty associated with fundraising and provide predictable support for the organisation's work.

Funding supports:

• Safe residential accommodation
• Educational support and tutoring
• Counselling and psychosocial support
• Recreational and developmental activities
• Life-skills development
• Mentorship opportunities
• Preparation for independent adulthood

While Rainbow Rescue cannot change the circumstances that brought a child into care, it can provide the stability needed to help shape a different future.
